I must admit, I personally like the way Google + works, it now even has pages for brands, nice to see things are slowly picking up

What really is web design?
Its a broadly used term, which many use to simply state they make web sites, as a way for non technicals to understand they may build web sites. When in fact they may be a web application developer/programmer.
Web design is the process of designing a site using a tool such as Photoshop or Fireworks, then implementing that design into what is seen in your browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. In saying this there are still a number of other steps which need to be taken to go from design to the web site coded and running in the browser, such as conceptualization, planning, post-production, research, advertising, these aspects are key to building a web site design which works for you business and works for your end users.
